Today the company announced WARN notices to 2,250 pilots.
Please review Flight Ops, CCS and ALPA bulletins regarding this development.
Official bulletins will always supersede any comments from the UAL Matrix.
Please note that in the event of actual furloughs, furloughees will have a free subscription to the UAL Matrix available (more info).
Terminology used in this commentary:
STATIC: Seniority List - the official, static, yearly seniority list from July 1, 2020.
DYNAMIC: CCS List - the list from the CCS staffing report - this is a dynamic list which excludes all pilots that are no longer employed (retired, quit, fired, etc.). However, the CCS list only displays the official seniority list number (the static one). The Matrix computes your CCS list number by counting all pilots senior to you - this number is always lower than the seniority list number, as it excludes pilots that are no longer with the company, but are still on the yearly, static seniority list.
First, a note about the official, static, yearly seniority list from July 1, 2020 (updated July 2, 2020):
Before the list was published:
U264682 with employee# 99999 in 20-08D now has Static number 8626.
We downloaded two seniority lists, and they are one number off:
July 1, 2020: 2020_seniority_list-final-pdf.pdf (13,048 pilots)
July 2, 2020: 2020_seniority_list-final-07-01-20-pdf.pdf (13,047 pilots)
The CCS list showed the following:
July 1, 2020: 12,942 pilots.
July 2, 2020: 12,942 pilots.
July 7, 2020: 12,942 pilots.
Many have asked a variation of "I expected the two numbers to match, or be very close to each other, on July 1?"
As you can see, the yearly seniority list includes 105 pilots that are no longer on the CCS list. ALPA SSC claims these 105 pilots are entitled to be on the list, and that there are clerical errors and technical errors as to how they are accounted for - "they were wrongly listed as retired," but instead they are on some sort of leave, which does not show up in CCS due to a technical IT error. Really?!
Note: These numbers were updated July 9, 2020.
We counted the the pilots on leave in the CCS list, on July 7, 2020.
So - Where is the WARN JrMan? (8-Ball) ?
Using the official, static, yearly seniority list from July 1, 2020 (updated July 2, 2020):
Seniority List JrMan: 13,047.
WARN Notices: 2,250.
WARN JrMan: 10,797
Using the CCS staffing report from July 7, 2020 (dynamic seniority list):
CCS list JrMan: 12,942.
WARN Notices: 2,250.
WARN JrMan: 10,692.
Per the crew resource update for July 10, 2020, which confirms the WARN JrMan based on the seniority list (10,797), we have labeled the WARN line "WARN-JrMan-7/10/2020" on the GRAPHS page.
We expect to be adding more visualization tools in the coming weeks.
Another reduction bid was announced for this week or next.
We expect to cover the daily reduction bid snapshots with an interactive Webview and Microsoft Excel spreadsheets.
Date of Hire (DOH) awareness.
DOH awareness prank - because DOH is MIA from seniority list - has been terminated.
The code has been updated - fix your DOH if it is still showing a day off.
